Abstract
For most children, the school is a place where they will spend most of their daily lives and where they are going to develop the most important basic skills for their future (Cueto et al, 2007). Nevertheless, in the current Peruvian context, violence is one of the most frequently forms of relationship in the school (Cáceres & Salazar, 2012). Consequently, the purpose of this study is to examine the different forms of violence in the school, their main determinants and consequences, and how them can be differentiated by age and gender. In that sense, using an Instrumental Variables methodology and probability models, we get the following main results: (1) a student who is victim of violence in his/her home, has more probability to be a victim of violence in the school, furthermore the forms of violence in the school can vary by the biological sex of the student. On the other hand, (2) being a victim of violence in the school increase the probability of failing a course in 50%, this increase may be greater for male and younger students.
